Hello GEMS Families,

Happy Holidays

We would like to wish our families a Happy Holiday. We are certainly grateful to have such great students and families as a part of GEMS. Please make sure you stay safe and healthy this holiday season. We look forward to seeing you all in 2021!! We will return on Tuesday, January 5th!

Need GEMS Gear?

We now have a GEMS clothing store. You can order your favorite GEMS Spirit wear and have it delivered to the school. The turn around for the order is approximately three to four weeks. Here is the link if you would like to order some GEMS Spirit wear.

What do I do if I have a positive COVID test over the Holiday?

If you have a positive COVID test over the holiday please fill out one of the forms below. Once those forms are completed it will alert someone at the district and you will be contacted about the next steps. The county testing centers are NOT open over break so if you want to get tested you will have to use your private health care provider. We hope that you all stay safe and healthy!

The district has recently moved to a new Parent Communication Program known as Parent Square.

Not only will GEMS use Parent Square for school announcements and communications, we will also utilize it to send home a variety of documents. In some cases, those documents could be sensitive in nature and require us to send them in a SECURE fashion. Report cards and progress reports are a couple of examples.

In order to receive and open these types of communications, parents NEED to be REGISTERED to the program. Thank you to the many GEMS parents that have already completed that process.

As we transition to this new method of sending communications and documents GEMS will send “invites” to those parents who have not officially registered. This will begin on Monday, December 14th. The process of registering should be simple by following the prompts contained in the message.

We are at the end of 1st semester and report cards will be sent to parents when we return from Winter Break. We will be sending them using both Parent Square and standard mail. Please note going forward, report cards and progress reports will be sent via Parent Square and in the secure document format.

Should you have any questions or concerns about the program or registration process, please feel free to contact our school office.

Traffic on 3rd and M

We are having issues with drop off on 3rd and M Streets. Just this week we had a truck go through the crosswalk with a teacher in it. We also have had several people turn in front of our students and speed down M street. Please take your time when you drop off your students. There are lots of students and staff out during drop off and pick off time.
If you are looking for an alternative consider dropping off on L street in front of the office. There is significantly less traffic since the school has been remodeled.

Being good neighbors and food distribution

Students are given food/lunches if they would like to take it. While most of our students are being respectful and taking the food home we have some students dumping the items out that they do not want or leaving bags on campus and on our neighbor's lawn. Please talk to your child if they take a food bag and make sure they are not leaving it on campus or on our neighbors property.

Please do NOT come to school sick

If your child is sick PLEASE do not send them to school. One of the main tasks is to assess your child’s ability to attend school each day by seeing if they have any COVID symptoms that cannot be explained by preexisting conditions. These symptoms include:
  • Fever (100.4 or higher) or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
If your child exhibits any of these symptoms due to an unknown condition, do not send them to school and call your school to see what your next steps are.
