Social Science

The GEMS Social Science Department is eager to help students understand the importance of history in their lives - how it has created their present and how it will impact their future.

Classes include projects and festivities that bring history to life.

All classes meet the California History-Social Science Content Standards for California Public Schools for Grades 6-8

6TH GRADE

Our 6th grade course features the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Kush, the ancient Hebrews, Greece, India, China, and Rome, including the everyday lives, problems and accomplishments of people and how they shaped the world we live in today.

7TH GRADE

Our 7th grade course covers Medieval and early modern times in Europe, Africa and Asia, including the Roman Empire, Islam, China, Ghana, Mali, Japan, Meso-American and Andean civilizations, the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Scientific Revolution, the Age of Exploration, the Enlightenment, and the Age of Reason.

8TH GRADE

The 8th grade course covers United States history and geography, including discovery and settlement, founding of the colonies, war for independence, birth of our nation, westward movement, Native Americans, Civil War and Reconstruction.
